The Shadow Era | Four Swords Adventures |
•The Revival of the Wind Sorcerer Vaati
The remaining Link drew the Four Sword from the Four Sword Shrine in order to save Princess Zelda. Doing so, his body split into four just as the legend told. However, at the same time, that meant that the sealed Vaati would be revived.
•Those Who Collect Force Gems and Ganondorf’s Secret Manoeuvres
The Four Sword that Link held did not have the power to break the darkness. Link collected the source of power, Force Gems, while setting off to save the maidens and Princess Zelda.
Meanwhile, after watching the revival of Vaati and Link’s adventure begin, Ganondorf, inside Hyrule Castle, took new action. That was, in order to gain more darkness, he used Vaati to open the door to the Dark World. Ganondorf used the power of the Trident to tear through the knights of Hyrule, one after the other, and turn them into monsters and put a curse on the jewels the knights were carrying.
The knights that were turned into monsters, by the order of Shadow Link, scattered throughout each region of the world and erased the appearance of the Palace of Winds. The jewels changed the door to the Dark World as well as the appearance and the land of Hyrule was once again flooded with monsters.

•Force Gems
The power inherent to all things in this world. The Four Sword was originally enchanted with it, but because of Vaati’s magic it has lost all its power.
•The Knights of Hyrule
The households of blue, green, red and purple knights which have guarded Hyrule kingdom for generations. They’re the pride of Hyrule; courageous, faithful and always ready to give up their lives for their duty.
•The Royal Jewels
Sacred gems needed to open the path to the heavens. The highly trusted knights of Hyrule have guarded these jewels for generations at the request of the royal family.
•The Palace of Winds
A pathway to the sky opened by the four royal jewels guarded by the knights of Hyrule. It shows up by placing the four gems in the Four Sword Shrine. Ganondorf took the jewels and cursed on them to prevent anyone from pursuing Vaati while he was in the Palace of Winds.

•Hyrule’s Geography of this Era
Force is prevalent in this land covered by deserts in the west, forests in the east and tall mountains to the north. Its most prevalent feature is the tower which was built to connect the surface with the Palace of Winds.
I’d like to ask something regarding this part: “The jewels changed the door to the Dark World as well as the appearance and the land of Hyrule was once again flooded with monsters.” Maybe it should be changed to say that the jewels’ appearance changed and that they became portals to the Dark World?
Since I haven’t actually played the game I’d like to ask something else. I have the impression that Ganon wanted Vaati to be freed to create a distraction. Is that correct?
Also, regarding this part: “That was, in order to gain more darkness, he used Vaati to open the door to the Dark World.” In which way exactly did Vaati help for the portals to be opened? I’m a little confused because according to this part: “Ganondorf used the power of the Trident to tear through the knights of Hyrule, one after the other, and turn them into monsters and put a curse on the jewels the knights were carrying.” it was Ganon himself who cursed the jewels and they changed into portals.
I think Ganon used Vaati to create and open portals to the Dark World in other regions of Hyrule. Minus the ones Ganon created with the Royals Jewels he stolen and cursed from the Royal Knights of Hyrule he destroyed and turned into Base Monsters of Magic. The Moon Pearls however are needed to enter Vaati’s Dark World portals though.
